  • National Anthropological Archives:
    • To access personal papers, manuscripts, photographs, oral histories, sound recordings, films, and organizational records in the collections of the Smithsonian Institution, National Anthropological Archives, on line go to:
      • Click “Archival, Manuscript, and Photographic Collections” to search the Archives Catalogue with a General Keyword—name, such as Black Moon, Wisapa, or Sitting Bull, who was photographed often.
      • There may also be un-catalogued photographs in the collection that may contain a photograph you want to find visit the photo image gallery:
        • Visitors to the NAA can request to study by appointment only, catalogued and un-catalogued materials. You can apply on line to have an appointment to study the original photographs at the archives facility in Suitland, MD.
        • If a photo has already been scanned for a researcher, you can order a copy for $7.50 each. If never scanned, you can get a copy for $50.
