USDA Agricultural Ambassadors Program

The USDA Agricultural Ambassador Program is a partnership among the Office of Advocacy and Outreach (OAO), Hispanic-Service Institutions National Program (HSINP), Agricultural Research Service (ARS), and participating HSI College or University to provide high school students with an opportunity to intern with USDA for five weeks (20 hours per week) over the summer.

Ambassadors are selected based on their academic excellence, interest in science, technology, engineering, agriculture, and demonstrated leadership qualities. Students submit an application, one page essay, letters of recommendation, and transcripts.

After completing the program, Ambassadors represent USDA at their respective high schools and serve as a resource to students interested in agricultural-related fields. Upon successful completion of the program students receive a stipend.

USDA Future Scientists Program

The USDA Future Scientist Program is a partnership among the Office of Advocacy and Outreach (OAO), Hispanic-Service Institutions National Program (HSINP), Agricultural Research Service (ARS), and Texas A&M University to engage communities and schools (grades K-12) with hands-on, inquiry-based activities that connect them with ARS scientist, laboratory sites, and current agricultural science research.

The program has a proven track record of successfully providing information to the local communities by inviting teachers, students, and their parents to become directly involved in research.

It addresses the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) by emphasizing cutting edge research and scientific processes using appropriate technologies with a focus on entomology and the local lab’s research.
